Auto Reposition

Inside the Punch tab, navigate to the Auto Reposition icon.

This tool is used to set up machine frames to enable all tooling to be processed. It sets up the frame positions, the clamp positions and the reposition pad positions if repositioning is required. Then, it studies if any tooling needs to be subdivided to allow it to be processed and subdivides such tooling automatically.

The Auto Reposition command brings up the Reposition Settings page, which is one of the pages of the Part Settings dialogue.

Reposition Settings

The switches on this page control how MetaCAM does auto-repositioning. MetaCAM can add machine frames to allow all tooling to be processed. Repositioning may be required if the part is larger than the machine stroke, or if some tooling interferes with the clamps. MetaCAM can automatically decide on optimum frame positions, clamp positions and repositioning pad (hold-down pad) positions. It can also automatically divide tooling that is too wide to be processed in a single frame into multiple separate toolings so that they can be processed in different frames.

Use reverse repositioning: If the part consists of multiple frames, this option generates code that will first proceed to the last frame and process the frames in reverse order.

Reposition as late as possible: Tooling that lies in the overlap region between multiple frames can be processed in either of these frames. This setting controls if such tooling is processed in the earlier frame or the later frame. If this setting is turned on, MetaCAM will try to defer the reposition operation as late as possible, causing tooling to be processed in the earlier frame. If this setting is turned off, MetaCAM will try to reposition as early as possible, causing such tooling to be processed in the later frame.

Return to starting frame at the end: After processing of the entire sheet is completed, MetaCAM will output repositioned NC code to go back to the first frame, for more convenient unloading of the processed sheet.

Add additional frames to avoid dividing shapes: If there is tooling which is smaller than the machine stroke, but which does not lie within any of the machine frames (because it straddles a boundary across two frames), MetaCAM can add a frame aligned with this tooling, to enable processing the complete tooling without repositioning. Turning this option on may result in more repositioning operations to be done.

Add additional frames to avoid dividing tooling: When selecting this option, MetaCAM will analyse if there is any risk of the tooling being divided when repositioning. In this case, additional frames will be added to minimise this risk.

Reduce the number of frames by dividing tooling/parts: When selecting this option, MetaCAM will analyse the parts and tooling to reduce the number of frames being used.

Set reposition pad close to the clamp: If this option is turned on, the Y-axis position of the reposition pad is fixed, and MetaCAM will not try to alter this Y coordinate when trying to locate a good position to place the clamp in. The Y position of the repositioned pads can be set in the machine configuration editor.

Don’t change clamp positions: Normally, MetaCAM will place the clamps at optimum positions, based on the sheet size and machine parameters. You can turn this option on if you have already set the clamp positions manually, and don’t want them to be changed. Note that MetaCAM may be unable to do a perfect auto-reposition operation in this case because it is possible for some tooling to be always fouling with the clamp dead-zones regardless of the frame placement.

Use long repositions to re-grip the sheet firmly: When enabling this option, the clamps will be repositioned further apart to ensure that the sheet is gripped firmly during punching.
