Preset: Wirejoints

This page is used to set up automatic wirejoints and corner joints when using the autotooler or interactive tooler.

Wire joint width, spacing: These settings control the width of the wirejoint, and the spacing between wirejoints on a long linear tooling. The spacing value is used as a guideline, and the actual wirejoints are applied equally spaced along the tooling.

Corner joints width: Sets the corner joint width (from the corner to the tip of the tooling).

Preference corner: Specify at which corners you want corner joints to be placed, by clicking on the small boxes at each corner. MetaCAM tries to match the actual corners of your part as closely as possible to the 8 schematic corners displayed in this figure.

Use joint tools: Trapezoid and Diajoint-shaped tools can be used as joint tools. This option is enabled only if there is a diajoint or trapezoid tool mounted in the turret, in an indexing station. If you turn on this setting and select a joint tool, it will be placed at all corner joints and micro joints, if there is enough space to place it. The picture below shows two parts tooled with corner and micro joints. The one on the left does not use a joint tool, while the one on the right uses a Diajoint-shaped joint tool.

Joint tool pattern: Use this list to choose one of three possible joint tool application patterns.

Corner joint style: Allows you to choose from one of the 3 corner joint styles. (In type C, the tooling on the left side is flush with the end of the line segment).

MJC wire joint tool, MJC corner joint tool: You can designate tools as MJC wire joint tool or MJC corner joint tool using these settings. If MJC tools are specified, then the autotooler and interactive wirejointing commands will all place MJC punches. You can open an existing part that already has tooling on it and run the auto-tooler to only place MJC punches. It will analyse the existing tooling of the part, and place MJC punches wherever there are wire joints or corner joints in the part. No duplicate MJC punches will be placed if MJC punches exist there already. This is useful to convert standard parts that are already tooled up into MJC parts. When you remove a wire joint or a corner joint, the corresponding MJC punch is also removed.

Do not corner joint segments < X: MetaCAM will not apply corner joints at either end of a segment whose length is less than this setting.
