Slugout Rectangle

In the Punch tab, navigate to the Slugout Rectangle icon.

When you switch to this mode, the Tools mounted in the turret window appear, and you can pick the tool to use. This list shows all the square tools. It also shows the rectangle tools, unless the Avoid rectangle tools for area punches switch is turned on in the Punch Tooling Defaults.

To slug out the rectangular area, click on the two opposite corners of the rectangle. As you are dragging the mouse, a cross appears inside the rectangle along with the tool outline if the slug out is feasible. If you are using a rectangle tool mounted in an indexing station, you can choose to use the tool in two different orientations. Hold down the Ctrl key to use the alternate orientation.

Bypassing the 1.5X check

The rectangle will not be slugged out if the length of the hole is less than 1.5 times the length of the tool, or if the width of the hole is less than 1.5 times the width of the tool. To bypass this check, hold down the Shift key when creating the slug out.

Slugging out inclined rectangles

To slug out an inclined rectangle, first use the Shift Origin tool to align the coordinate system with the inclined rectangle that should be punched. Then use this tool to slug out the inclined rectangle.

Rotating the tool by 90 degrees

When using an indexing rectangular tool to slug out a hole, you can sometimes use the tool in two possible orientations. To switch the tool to the alternate orientation, hold down the CTRL key when creating the slug out.

Working with a tool that already exists in the drawing

To work with a tool that already exists in the part, just select any random tool from the Tools mounted in the turret window. Then, hold down the ALT key and click on some punch tooling in the part; the tool used by that punch will be picked up for use.
